“You stole my content!”

“Really? How can you even claim that?”

This is the starting point of a dispute between two parties on an online platform claiming to be the owner of the same content.

This is what many of the digital businesses and platforms face when creating and posting something valuable either for their audience or their businesses in the form of content or some type of data. These businesses can be operating in form of a website, a blog, an e-commerce store, a social media platform, a YouTube channel, or some other video content providing platform.

Piracy or infringement is a common practice among many domains of businesses and needs to be dealt with accordingly.

This may be interesting for you to know that even if your content has not been stolen yet, you can become a victim of this in near future. So, what am I really trying to say here?

Okay! Get to the point!

Believe it or not many people out there having a presence on any online digital platform tend to steal the content of others rather develop it on their own. They simply are not that creative or even they don’t want to pay someone to write or develop content for them. So protection of the content from online infringement or piracy is more important than ever now.

These Robin Hoods don’t help but themselves as they are too shy to work on their own content.

Fortunately, there is a solution to every problem. If we don’t develop standards and measures for everything that is done, then there is no way that one can track any progress or downfall in any system.

Most of the times the people who face infringement issues are

Website or blog owners

E-commerce Business owners

Online product or service owners

Youtubers

And people on various other platforms.

So, what is the solution exactly?

There is world-wide accepted law which is called DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) that helps you legally to protect your data from online piracy and infringement activities. You can learn more about DMCA by clicking this.

It gives you the leverage of protecting your content from any present or future theft issues. If a website has stolen your content, you can directly deal with it through DMCA with the website owner or their hosting provider.

You can even target the same infringing website at their social media presence. You can target them at their payment and service-providing processors. You can even contact Google, Bing, or any search engine to remove that infringing content from their web search results.

After developing a complete strategy of targeting the infringing content holder, you can expect successful results. But there are some necessary requirements too if you want to go with this entire process.

These requirements are,

> You need to have proof that you are the original owner of the infringed content. This can be in the form of a URL of the original work location.

> If you have any files that claim that you are the rightful owner of any content then this can also be a plus.

> If you have posted the original content before the publishing date and time of the infringed content, then there are chances that you will have a strong case.

Any of us can have this unfortunate experience of dealing with this type of issue or dispute. You can always take a course on Udemy or skillshare about DMCA protection or you can hire a DMCA specialist in case you don’t have time or don’t want to learn on your own.

I hope this was helpful!
