There is a famous quote among marketing specialists and that is,

“People Don’t buy products or services. They Buy emotions, feelings and stories”

And this explains the whole thing. We are social animals (at least in this era) who willingly or unconsciously accept and resonate with content and information that has a touch of emotions.

Emotions run our life. Either you are a scientist, a mother, or a banker per se, at some point, we all need some Juice of Feelings. The same thing works in the case of Advertisement and copywriting.

Copywriting is a skill that has been around since the beginning of the human race. Actually, it’s not about selling something in form of cash or commodities always, it’s about selling our opinions and arguments too. Let me clear my perspective with an example.

Let’s say when one of the parents of a child enters the room. When he sees, everything is a mess. There is nothing in the right place. The parent “Hey Kid, this isn’t going to happen in my house. You have to clean up your room at least. Now get up and get this done.” says to his child. The Child replies” Dad, actually, I was researching a project since last week. The assignment is going to get me a straight-A in Geography. That’s why I could not pay attention to the room.” Now, the father looks at the child again and suddenly his eyes are all filled with compassion and kindness. He says” Oh I See! You concentrate on your assignment son. Mama will take care of the room.” Now Let’s see what has just happened. A child and a parent had a conversation. Both of them argued. Father said something and the son responded too. But in the end, the father is persuaded by the argument of the son and gets satisfied. In fact, the Father is a buyer here and the son is a seller. He has sold his perspective to his father in such a manipulative way that he can’t resist his answer. Whether the son has an assignment or not (and I bet he isn’t that conscious about his studies), he is now going to enjoy a clean room the whole weekend until his next meeting with his father.

The point is, we are all buying and selling all the time in our daily routine. So, we are all copywriters by birth. This is built-in functionality that is already installed in us. It’s up to us now whether we upgrade it or not.

Copywriting is a skill that is going to be with you till death. I believe that Warren Buffet is one of the greatest copywriters in the world. And many of you will say “Well, Warren is not a Copywriter. He is a successful investor and businessman.” Well, the answer is in your statement. He is “successful” because whenever he starts his video or speech, there is a huge factor of curiosity. And, when he ends the speech, there is a great message and a call to action in some way. People listen to the Buffet because he can sell anything with the power of his magnetic words. That’s the biggest quality of a copywriter. The by-product of an effective copy is to urge our audience to respond to a call to action. So whether Buffet writes copies or not professionally, he sure is one of the living legends of copywriting field.

This specific piece of writing is not about how to write a copy or how to write persuasive headlines. This also isn’t about the procedure of email marketing or the selection of a suitable archetype. This is about why copywriting is one of the most important skills in the world and how is it changing with the emerging trends.

Copywriting is a very vast field. Some of the famous types of copywriting are the following.

And so on.

There is a variety of niches too and every type and niche has a huge demand for skilled copywriters. It doesn’t matter where you come from, if you are talented enough to play with words, copywriting is for you. Whether you are a Harvard graduate or a college dropout, if you have a good command of developing engaging content that sells and converts, you are good to go. Actually, people from humble backgrounds are more successful in this field than the sophisticated Toppers and 3.7 GPA holders of the universities, etc.

Now the real question is why copywriting? The answer is very simple. It’s the most lucrative and in-demand skill in every field from every location since the beginning of business culture and it will be like this till doomsday. Whether you are a handyman, a graphic designer, or a data scientist, you need to persuade someone to get benefits and rewards in exchange for services and products. No one offers a free ride. Even God demands good deeds from the people in return for heaven or peace or whatever you seek. The point is, there is a continuous loop of selling and buying everywhere in every domain and angle.

If a person has no skill or is not able to learn anything technical, this single skill can prove to be a million-dollar chest. Dan Kennedy, one of the renowned marketing consultants and copywriters said,

And this is the beauty of it. Many copywriters receive a handsome royalty cheque every month or every 3 months for the converting and revenue-generating copy that they developed for a business.

This can be your retirement dessert too. You can work in an agency or become a freelancer. By developing digital products like video courses or e-books, you can set a profitable business, and then you can do the copywriting of that business too. So, what is the reason for not Copywriting?

From the startups to Tech-Giants, everyone needs to sell their stuff. And they probably have the best copywriters too. And you might think “Oh boy, my client is richer than me. How can I guide him to do the business?” And when you are a newbie, this especially can become a problem because you neither have a strong portfolio to show nor experience. So here is the biggie. Most of the CEOs and business owners are technically and (sometimes) naturally “Dumb.” They are richer than you and can be richer than the total GDP of a country and that is a fact. But most of the time, even they don’t know how to market their product or service in a specific scenario.

They are the filthy rich people who are willing to invest and make millions but they don’t have a practical and actual profitable strategy. That’s where they need an advisor who can understand their situation and can suggest to them the proper work-flow that is reasonable and workable for their business in their budget and resources. Here suddenly, the door opens and a person with a tie and a proper suit comes in.

And that’s you, yes, a copywriter. Well, the person with a tie and suit is not a necessity for a copywriter. It is just a theatrical fun representation of the scene. But, you can wear pajamas and conduct meetings too as a copywriter (especially when freelancing). You can be the savior of a bankrupt small restaurant and also of a multi-billion dollar corporation too. The choice is yours.

Conclusion

You can help a business to make millions and also can ruin a business through an expensive yet irresponsive marketing campaign. So the copy with positive results is all that matters. Whether you are using a 100 years old technique or the latest formula by Tai Lopez, as long as you are making sales and generating profits, you are valuable and appreciable as a copywriter.

So what are you waiting for?

Learn Copywriting because it is not only the skill of the past. It is the skill of the future too.

And one important tip. Instead of making copywriting just a professional skill, make it a lifestyle. You will achieve more than you can imagine.

Happy Writing!
